In the 1940s near a cannery town, a hunter preparing to enter the mountains was attacked by a very tall hairy creature. His dogs drove the creature off and others found him alive. He lived long enough to describe the attacker as a giant hairy being before dying.

Two weeks after being shot, the creature returned to the farm while wood was being chopped by lantern light. It attacked the boy who had shot it, knocking him down and breaking his arm before the father drove it away. The boy was left unconscious but expected to recover, and hunters then scoured the area.

Four men returning home were accosted by a long-haired gorilla-like wild man and fought it to the ground, binding its wrists. It freed itself, climbed a tree with cat-like agility, then later came down and fought the two watchers, badly biting and scratching one and tearing clothing before disappearing.

A gorilla-like monster was reported visiting a house and carrying a dog away into the woods. It later allegedly attacked and badly wounded a large hound. A party was organizing to capture it.

A newspaper correspondent described a party tracking a famous wild man to a frozen lake where dogs lost the trail. A rider watched the figure break ice with its arms, come ashore and shake itself. When headed off, it dragged the hunter down, gouged his eyes and bit him, destroyed the saddle and bridle, then rode the horse toward the mountains using a sapling as a club.

A San Francisco newspaper article from the 1850s reportedly described giant creatures coming out of the hills on the Kenai Peninsula. The creatures were said to capture humans and eat them.

A press account told of a wild man living in a cave or deserted mine who raided farms for calves and sheep despite a cash reward. A hunter entered the cave alone with a knife and fought hand-to-hand for an hour, reporting a towering, long-haired, savage-faced creature with thin bony hands. The hunter escaped crawled out at midnight exhausted after being knocked unconscious.
Paranormal encounter
Two companions traveling with money stopped for the night at a roadside tavern and shared a locked upper room. During the night one was seized around the throat by a heavy, hairy, naked figure that he wrestled off, but a light showed no intruder and no way in or out. Weeks later they heard another traveler had been found dead in the same room with marks on the throat.
