The witness was traveling by vehicle on a highway in daylight when she saw a large dark furry bipedal figure emerge from woods on one side. The figure stepped over a roadside fence, crossed four lanes quickly with a smooth gliding run, then stepped over a fence on the far side and disappeared into a pine thicket. A companion traveling with her did not see it.

The witness observed through a rifle scope an apelike face and hair-covered body moving along the creek for about ten minutes. As they backed away, a growl and a single loud scream were heard from its direction before it ran and leapt across the creek, after which the pair left.

The witness was on a military training exercise at Ft. Bragg when he walked away from his group after sunrise to a small sandy clearing. He found very large human-like barefoot tracks with a smaller set of child-sized tracks crossing the clearing into surrounding pines. He followed them across the clearing where they disappeared into the trees, but returned without others examining them due to lack of time.
Deep impressions seen in the snow
The witness and companions drove to the summit of Mt. Mitchell in snow and spotted deep impressions in a roadside snowbank on the way down at night. They returned in daylight and examined a trackway of large prints in 18-inch-deep snow leading up a steep bank into the woods. The prints were about 14 by 7 inches with faint possible toe marks and no claws, and the stride suggested a biped that climbed in two steps and stepped over a three-foot-high branch. They searched the road in both directions without finding a crossing point and concluded the animal had traveled along the road.

The witness was driving toward the beach at dusk when a large hairy creature stood in the road. The car glanced the creature, then the witness stopped and the creature got up, approached, and chased the car, striking the rear. The witness drove away and later found a dented quarter panel with hair, a shattered spoiler, and a lingering foul smell on the car.

The witness claimed large foot-shaped tracks were found in deep snow around their home in Glendale Springs. The tracks were described as 12 to 16 inches long and spaced 5 to 6 feet apart, extending over a mile or more and appearing to cross a split-rail fence in one stride. More than ten residents and park rangers reportedly saw the tracks and photos were taken, while rangers suggested rabbits or small animals as an explanation.
