Two people driving in early afternoon saw a tall, hairy figure cross the highway in a few long strides and continue down an embankment, disappearing within seconds. The figure was described as very large, muscular and brown-haired with long arms, moving with a smooth gliding jog. After stopping to look for tracks without success, they reported the sighting to patrons at a nearby tavern who did not believe them.

Police were called and during the subsequent search an officer saw a tall man-like figure run across a highway. A later visitor examined a cast and said weight distribution argued against a fake shoe.
