Two companions were fishing at a mostly frozen pond in winter when a large hair-covered bipedal figure stood up on the far shoreline. The figure walked up a steep hill, turned at the top to look back at them, then left. The witnesses watched for about one to two minutes and then left as well.

Two high-school companions went to an old single-lane railroad bridge at night to look into stories that it was haunted. While walking toward an abandoned barn they heard approaching rustling, then a loud scream-growl and heavy footsteps. A large shaggy creature reportedly ran at them on all fours, stood up about 15 feet away, and chased them back to their car before leaving when something else came down the road. They returned the next day and found odd-looking footprints.

The witness camped alone on pine needles above old coal mines after companions left for the night. Around 3 a.m. he awoke feeling watched to dead silence, then heard loud ape-like screams from both ends of camp at intervals. A passing train sounded its horn, frightening the creature away, after which the group waited before fleeing on foot back to a friend's house.

Two boys were hiking and exploring in remote hardwood forest in the afternoon when a rock struck a tree beside them. They looked uphill about 50 feet and saw a dark, roughly six-foot-tall figure watching them intently with a hunched, swaying posture. At dusk after standing to retrieve game, the nearby brush erupted with loud crashing and a loud scream, and the witness shouted back reflexively. The witness then walked toward the barn with rifle ready while snapping sounds followed in the brush until fading near the barn.
