The witness was camping alone in a tall tent when something large approached at night. A tall shadow with broad shoulders was cast on the tent by an outside lantern. The visitor opened food containers, ate bread, growled, overturned a cooler and carried off meat before leaving toward the river where vocalizations were heard. Large footprints and teeth marks were found the following morning.

In late August 1997 the witness was camped alone without a tent on an aspen hillside after hunting grouse. In the middle of the night something circled the camp at close range, moving bipedally with shuffling steps, breaking branches and making low muttering sounds. After several minutes the witness spoke aloud saying he wanted no trouble, after which the prowler stopped and then trotted downhill away.

There he encountered a tall, hair-covered figure pulling at the pen wire, which turned to face him before fleeing toward the forest. A relative who ran outside also saw the figure running away. Two forestry workers resurveying a remote allotment for a timber harvest reported being followed at a distance while smelling a heavy stench. During a break they heard large movement in the brush, threw a piece of wood toward the sound, and then saw the backlit shadows of four hair-covered figures behind bushes in a break of sunlight. The witness described two large males standing motionless, a thin female with a hump who vocalized and wrung her hands, and a smaller child-sized figure, before the light faded and the pair left the area to finish work later.

The witness stopped a car by a wooded road to urinate. A hairy man-like creature approached to within three feet while snorting and grunting and holding a small limb-like object, then walked away. The witness fled in the car and saw the creature standing at the road edge in the rear-view mirror.

The main witness was sitting on a log hunting squirrels after an older relative moved to another area. A dark hairy figure reportedly ran upright from behind a tree very fast, making a high-pitched noise with loud thumping footsteps. After it disappeared, the witness ran to tell the older relative, who did not believe the account.

Shortly after the silence, the witness heard a loud deep grumbly yell ending deeper that she had never heard before. The guest and several friends hiked up a trail into a large, deep canyon. The woods went quiet and felt wrong before they heard a very loud, long yell like an old police siren from the ridge. They ran out of the canyon without seeing anything.

Medical testing reportedly found no drugs or alcohol, and the man later left the area.

The son reported hearing a high-pitched scream and grunting that the father could not hear. They searched the spot but found no sign, noting an unusual absence of deer and elk sign.

In the morning the coolers had been ransacked, and the pair left the campground early the next night after feeling uneasy.
