The witness was driving home south of Peshtigo at dusk when headlights caught a large dark creature crossing the highway in front of the car. The witness slowed and watched it cross the southbound lanes, median, and northbound lanes into the woods over several seconds. The witness also noticed a strong skunk-like odor, then secured the car and left the area.

The animal was illuminated by the yard light for two seconds or less at about fifty yards distance. He estimated its height by comparison to a six-foot barn door and described it as dark, furry, and stocky with no obvious neck. He searched the next day but found no tracks because the ground was frozen with no snow.
