The witness and a companion were driving north on the levee gravel road at dusk after a fishing trip. An upright hair-covered figure emerged from tall grass, crossed the road in front of the vehicle headlights, and went down into tall grass on the other side and out of sight. As the vehicle passed through the path it had taken, the witness smelled a very strong musty and putrid odor.

On a winter night around 11:30 p.m., the witness was traveling home from work near Sidney, Montana when a tall light-haired biped crossed the highway ahead at the end of a coulee guardrail section and continued north without looking toward the witness. The figure was described as well over six feet tall with hair that was darker at the skin than at the tips. The witness was traveling alone, was frightened by the encounter, and did not return the next day to look for tracks in the snow.

Two geologists driving at night toward Yellowstone saw a large upright shaggy figure in their high beams as it climbed from a roadside ditch. The figure glanced at the vehicle, then crossed the highway in a few long strides, grasped the guardrail, and descended into a culvert out of sight. The witnesses stopped briefly then drove on to the park entrance, waiting until morning to compare independent written accounts.

The reporter and three companions spent about half an hour on an observation tower, where the reporter heard loud clicking and short high-pitched screams and noticed an absence of birds. While driving out of the refuge minutes later, the reporter and the front-seat companion watched a huge, very wide, all-black upright figure cross the wide road in about three steps and disappear into dense brush. The companions in the back seat did not see it, and a brief stop found only a disturbed path through the brush where it had entered.

When they turned the sled around, the witness saw a large dark hair-covered biped cross the road in front of them in about two steps, swinging its arms. At first thinking it was a bear, he watched it step out and walk across the road in front of him before disappearing into brush. After hiking, the witness was driving back toward the highway in early afternoon when a tall dark humanlike figure crossed the road about 50 yards ahead. The figure continued up a very steep bank while remaining upright. The witness was alone and stated it was not a bear and that they had never seen such a creature before or since.

Late at night in summer 1977, the witness was driving a van with four companions back to camp when a tall bipedal figure crossed the road in front of them. Headlights illuminated its shape and eyes as it moved from a low area toward a mountain embankment. The driver stopped and searched the roadside with a light, heard movement in the brush but found no tracks, and later reported the incident to police.
