"Ohio howls" heard by campers in Kern Canyon 15 miles north of Isabella Lake
The witness and his wife were camping with their dogs when they heard repeated long howls echoing from the surrounding ridges. The witness joked at the time that it was Bigfoot but later became convinced after a shopkeeper said other campers reported similar sounds. After returning home the wife identified a played recording as exactly matching what they had heard.

The witness and family were staying in a cabin backing to forest and granite cliffs near June Lake. Late at night they went onto the deck and heard a distant loud, deep howl lasting under a minute. About 10-15 minutes later, while the witness was showering, the rest of the family heard the same type of sound three more times from inside the cabin with windows open. The witness, familiar with local wildlife sounds, felt the vocalization was louder and deeper than any known animal.

Two deer hunters hiking back to camp at dusk near Heart Lake heard loud bellowing howls and watched a deer flee through brush. They then saw a tall dark figure on the ridgeline that first resembled a standing bear but looked like neither a bear nor a man through a rifle scope. The figure ran downhill after the deer and disappeared into brush, and the hunters later found a very large footprint where it had stood.

While camping with a partner and a neighboring camper, the witness heard prolonged guttural howling at dawn. The howling lasted about three minutes, paused, then resumed more faintly from farther upstream. The second bout was followed by high-pitched screaming sounds.

Cattle downstream moved upstream away from the sound. They left at dark, drove downstream toward the first howl location, saw a buck fleeing the creek bottom, and found no people at creek access areas.

The witness and companions stayed overnight near a meadow at Lake McCumber and heard a strange high-pitched, human-like howling from the meadow off and on between 3 and 5 a.m. Two companions stayed up on the deck listening while the witness listened from bed. No creature was seen. The next morning a fawn without its mother was noticed in the meadow.

The witness was fishing on a lake in the afternoon when long, deep howls were heard from the far side of the lake. Each howl lasted about 20 seconds and was repeated three or four times from an estimated quarter-mile away. The witness stated the sounds did not match familiar local mammals or bird calls.
