Sasquatch sighting near Grantsville, West Virginia (1970)
The guest and his younger brother were on summer vacation at their grandfather's hillside house in West Virginia. After the younger brother fled the back bedroom saying a hairy face had pushed through the unscreened window while sniffing the air, both boys ran outside and, in headlights reflected off the siding, watched a dark bipedal figure go down the rear embankment and crash through a dense briar thicket. The next morning their uncle turned pale when told and warned them to stay out of the back.

While throwing a football alone at night, the witness noticed a small head with pointed ears peeking from behind tall hedge bushes and threw the ball toward it after it repeatedly ducked. Later that same night while sleeping near a low bedroom window, a much larger hairy face appeared at the glass, made eye contact, shifted its eyes, wrinkled its brow and opened a wide mouth showing pointed teeth. The witness fled to a parent's room while heavy pacing was felt and heard around the house, then police were called but found nothing. The next morning the witness found large prints around windows and garden, recalled repeated early-morning howls, a growl with a branch breaking, grunting in the basement and a violently shaking backyard tree.

In summer 1970 the witness parked at a Stone State Park overlook at night with three companions. While he lay on a blanket with his date near bushes, a very loud scream erupted from very close by. The pair fled to the convertible and drove away, leaving the blanket behind. Decades later the witness interpreted the screamer as a female bigfoot startled at close range.

On a moonlit night in summer 1970, the witness was on a road by a cornfield with a companion when a large brownish creature was heard and then seen running across the road, down a ditch, over a fence and into the cornfield. The creature had a foul smell. The witness returned the next day and found large smudged footprints in the road and cornfield.

The witness, then about seven, was playing outside with her twin sister and two large dogs on a gravel road. The dogs began barking aggressively, and the witness saw a large hair-covered creature step from the woods and walk across the road about 200 feet away. It paused, turned its whole torso toward the children, then continued into the tree line. The frightened children ran to a neighbor's house, and the witness's mother later suggested it was a Bigfoot, which the witness confirmed from a magazine photo weeks later.

The witness describes three years of repeated encounters after his family moved onto a wooded hillside property. Four ape-like animals repeatedly approached the trailers, peered in windows, vocalized at night, left tracks, damaged structures, and killed livestock. The father shot the largest animal in the shoulder near the pump house, after which the animals moved faster and more cautiously but continued the activity. Forestry and law-enforcement visitors reportedly told the father to stop shooting, and timber workers and well drillers also encountered the animals.

While fishing from a boat near shore, the witness smelled a strong musky odor for several minutes, then spotted a tall hair-covered figure partly hidden behind a short tree at the treeline. The figure remained still for a couple minutes, then stood, stepped into the open to look at the boat, and walked slowly uphill into denser forest. A companion in the boat also smelled the odor but did not see the figure.

The witness, recently out of the military, was fly-fishing with three relatives in a steep, remote river gorge. He turned to see an upright animal at close range that quickly climbed the steep bank to the ridgeline. The group then heard extremely loud guttural vocalizations and huffs, saw movement on the ridge, and had a large rock land in the water near them. They left at dusk and later agreed among themselves it had not been a bear despite one relative's dismissive explanation.

The witness was camping with two companions near a lake in Yosemite. After hearing cracking in brush in the afternoon, they heard a close loud roar rising to a high scream at night and smelled a wet-dog odor. Other campers said something ran past their tent, and the group stayed in the tent until sunrise then left without continuing their trip.

At age 11 the witness rode on the side of her mother's pickup as her mother backed toward the road at night. Brake lights illuminated a very tall white or silver figure standing by a bushy tree about 10 feet away. It stared and snarled at her with dark eyes, then she threw herself flat in the truck bed as her mother drove away.

The witness, then a child home sick on a couch, awoke in the middle of the night to the outside dog whining. Looking out the living-room window, the witness saw a large dark silhouette filling the window width and standing silently looking in. The figure was described as taller than six feet, with several inches of moonlit sky visible above its head, and showed no discernible features or movement.

The witness and a companion hiked about five miles up a creek to fish and felt they were being watched as the forest went unusually quiet. During an afternoon thunderstorm a lightning strike hit across the creek, after which they heard a growling or grunting sound and branches breaking high in trees moving rapidly up the creek and mountain out of hearing. The witness briefly saw a large shadow moving in the woods but nothing conclusive, and they could not search for prints because a fire from the strike caused evacuation.

In summer around 1970, the witness and a friend were walking on an old dirt road through dense forest. About 50 feet ahead they heard a loud growling and screaming sound, saw trees shaking with sunlight breaking through the canopy, and felt the ground shake. In summer 1970, the witness and a companion were camping in a tent along logging roads when they heard loud ape-like screaming lasting many seconds. They saw a large dark silhouette about 150 feet away, shouted warnings and fired .22 rounds at it without effect. Upon approaching, they found the silhouette was an old logging stump. The witness estimated the screams came from within a few hundred yards, with no nearby houses.

Four teenagers were bedded down in a small wall tent during a hiking trip when they heard heavy footsteps circling the tent three times. The steps brushed against the tent fabric without tripping on the supporting ropes, and no flashlight was seen in the darkness. In November 1969, the witness and his father were hunting in the morning when the father spotted what he first thought was a bear across a hay field. Both then observed a large brown-haired biped standing at the far fence line for an extended period through a rifle scope and field glasses. The father said he did not know what it was and chose not to shoot, and they returned to camp where he armed himself and kept the witness inside.

The witness was deer hunting alone from a ground blind in northern Minnesota. A frightened doe ran into the blind and lay down behind the witness. Shortly after, two large hairy creatures appeared on either side, one stepping briefly out of a cornfield and another showing only the top of its head in brush, vocalizing and moving around before leaving, after which the deer walked away and the witness left.

The witness was driving west down White Pass late at night when headlights revealed a tall hair-covered biped climbing the roadside bank. The creature stepped over the guardrail and continued walking uphill without reacting to the car. The witness slowed, moved to the left lane, and watched for about 15 seconds before passing. The witness could not identify it as a bear or ape.
