About an hour after dark they heard a loud minute-long scream that shifted in pitch and direction and seemed to originate just outside the camp light. They did not see the source, which then left quietly. The next day they noted apparent bedding under a collapsed cabin roof and an odd-shaped impression in a creek sandbar.

The witness and a relative were camping and had just built a fire when they heard a scream from a ridge. After firing a shotgun into the air, they saw the moonlit outline of an upright human-like figure running toward the water's edge while making an unfamiliar howling sound. They also noticed something that looked like a large footprint but were unsure about it.

Shortly after dinner the witness watched from a campfire as an upright hairy animal appeared on a ridgeline about 120 yards away. After other family members were called over, the animal looked toward them, moved uphill with very long strides, violently shook a small fir tree with one hand, then went over the ridge and out of sight. The whole sighting lasted 30 to 40 seconds, and a later search of the area found no tracks.

The witness went for an afternoon run up a dusty logging road, shaking a bottle with stones to warn bears. Seeing no prints on the way up, the witness found two sets of large foot-like tracks crossing the road diagonally on the return. The larger prints were estimated at 13-14 inches long, with a smaller parallel set heading downhill. Frightened, the witness ran out and later tried to revisit the site, but a thunderstorm had washed the road.

Looking for what spooked the deer, the witness saw a large black biped moving parallel to a meadow that increased its stride upon noticing them. As he drove closer and passed it, he screamed in terror while the creature continued walking without reacting. The witness was driving and glanced toward a pond, where a large fur-covered creature was seen squatting at the water's edge and drinking with its right hand. A companion in the car saw the same scene. Both were stunned and did not stop for a second look.

Two years later eleven friends backpacked to the same Packwood Lake camp. On the second morning they found a barefoot trackway coming out of the creek bed toward the lake that stopped about twenty feet short of the water. The prints were much larger than a boot, in a straight line with a raised ridge in the middle. Later a companion climbing trees and making monkey noises gave the witness a bad feeling of being watched.
