In the early morning the witness was at a rental mobile home property with his wife to check on tenants and let dogs out. The dogs refused to leave the porch while reacting to movement in an adjacent tobacco field. The witness saw a large hunched furred figure with a rounded back in the field and a smaller figure moving away, and heard exchanging chuffing vocalizations and a distressed mewling sound from the field and from across the road near a creek. The figures moved toward tall grass and the tree line, a tree across the road shook as if climbed, a musty odor was noticed, and mashed grass trails were found the next morning.

In early fall 2002 the witness was driving to work on a highway in the morning and saw a large dark-brown hairy animal crossing the road on a hill crest. The animal first moved on all fours, then rose onto its hind limbs, ran with long steps and leapt over an embankment and fence into the woods. The sighting lasted only a few seconds, and a later visit to the site revealed many game footprints.

Two companions were hunting deer on a family property near Pine Mountain when they found a footprint and other tracks near a pine overhang, noticed a localized strong skunk-like odor, and saw a pile of fresh acorns with no oak nearby. Two people walking across a frozen lake found a trackway of very large five-toed footprints and followed it for several hundred yards toward the opposite shore. The prints were described as 14-16 inches long with a bridge-like ridge and spaced 5-7 feet apart. While in the area they also heard intermittent small thudding sounds in short bursts.

After moving to an aspen grove, the group heard loud repeated knocking sounds likened to logs or sticks hitting trees. The next day after snowfall, the witness returned and found a fresh cow elk carcass with its chest torn open and large indistinct tracks with a long stride nearby.

Two forestry technicians stopped for lunch at Onion Lake while closing seasonal gates. During a walk around the lake, the witness found tracks coming out of the shallow water and going into the forest. Both workers examined the prints, measured them with a tape, recorded details in notebooks, then left to finish work without telling supervisors.
