Hunters have an encounter returning from hunt
Three elk hunters walking back toward camp heard a loud crash and chased what they assumed was a bull elk to the rim of a deep, steep-sided canyon. From across the canyon the reporter watched through a rifle scope as a tall, black-haired biped ran up the opposite slope on two feet and briefly turned to show its face in profile before entering the trees. The group chose not to pursue closely, later backtracked the trail toward the highway, and examined broken vegetation and footprints the following day.

In October 1970, a teenager watching television indoors glanced toward a large picture window and reported a tall grey hair-covered figure standing very close outside staring in. An animal initially mistaken for the dog stood up and walked away to join two larger individuals, and all three left into the brush. Later that same night while sleeping near a low bedroom window, a much larger hairy face appeared at the glass, made eye contact, shifted its eyes, wrinkled its brow and opened a wide mouth showing pointed teeth. The witness fled to a parent's room while heavy pacing was felt and heard around the house, then police were called but found nothing. The next morning the witness found large prints around windows and garden, recalled repeated early-morning howls, a growl with a branch breaking, grunting in the basement and a violently shaking backyard tree.

On a moonlit night in summer 1970, the witness was on a road by a cornfield with a companion when a large brownish creature was heard and then seen running across the road, down a ditch, over a fence and into the cornfield. The creature had a foul smell. The witness returned the next day and found large smudged footprints in the road and cornfield.

The witness describes three years of repeated encounters after his family moved onto a wooded hillside property. Four ape-like animals repeatedly approached the trailers, peered in windows, vocalized at night, left tracks, damaged structures, and killed livestock. The father shot the largest animal in the shoulder near the pump house, after which the animals moved faster and more cautiously but continued the activity. Forestry and law-enforcement visitors reportedly told the father to stop shooting, and timber workers and well drillers also encountered the animals.

On a sandy bar beside a pool they found very large, deep tracks crossing in a straight line with a long stride. A family was camping by a river when the mother went behind the truck at night and saw a whitish upright creature at close range. She ran screaming to the others, and the family hurriedly broke camp while an older brother fired shots as the creature circled and crossed the road. Afterwards they found three-toed footprints near the truck and a large dent where the creature had struck the vehicle, then left immediately.

The witness and his wife were lying awake in a lakeside cabin at night when his wife repeatedly said a raccoon was looking in a small rear window. After several minutes he rolled over quickly and saw a dark-faced, brown-furred creature with a large conical head peering in, which left within seconds. The next morning he found a single large heel/footprint about eight inches wide in mud by a small stream behind the cabin.

On March 9, 1969, a group visiting a vacation property on Bear Creek found very large footprint-like depressions in deep snow. The tracks appeared to come from the campsite area and angle off toward the creek into trees, with a stride a tall adult could not match. The group left without further investigation, and the witness later notified the county sheriff, whose follow-up found additional tracks and produced casts.

The witness was staying overnight at the family property and went outside about 2 a.m. to quiet barking kennel dogs. On the way out and again on the way back, the witness noticed a large silver-colored being sitting calmly on a woodpile and watching. The witness went inside, locked the door, awoke shaking three hours later, and later called a friend and drew what was seen.

As a child, the witness watched from a second-floor farmhouse window as a tall, hairy biped crossed the front yard uphill, repeatedly glancing back and briefly meeting his gaze before disappearing around the house. Frightened, he ran to his parents, and a relative and a companion went outside and found oversized footprints that they followed by car across a plowed field until the tracks led uphill toward the forest and disappeared.

The witness scouted a hilltop path one afternoon, then returned the next morning after light rain to find large human-like barefoot prints overlying his own prints from the day before. On October 20 they rode up the creek bed and encountered a large muscular creature standing by the water, which the companion filmed while the guest covered him. They described a flat apelike face and long limbs and fled quickly to their house where they told a parent. They said they avoided the road and thicket afterward.

Late at night in 1967 the witness and a friend were watching TV when barking dogs drew them to look outside. They saw a large human-like figure running while being chased by dogs and emitting a loud screaming sound. The next day the witness found very large bare-foot tracks in mud near home and learned relatives on the next street had also heard the screaming.

As a 12-year-old walking home from the school bus with five other children, the witness noticed movement from a deep ditch beside a gravel road. A hair-covered figure rose from the ditch, crossed the road on two feet, vaulted a pony fence with one hand, and sprinted across an open field much faster than ponies. The figure was estimated at about six feet tall and its face was not seen.
