Very early one morning in 1991, the witness was fishing along the Hood Canal shore and saw an animal digging that was first taken for a bear. When it stood upright, looked at the witness, and walked quickly north into brush and trees on two legs, the witness concluded it was not a bear. The witness later found two clear five-toed footprints measuring 15-16 inches where it had been and photographed them with a shoe for scale.

While sitting by a fire, the companion stared toward the road and the witness then saw a tall dark hairy face peering through willows about 30-40 feet away. The figure then crashed through the creek and willows up the hillside out of sight, after which the pair left hastily.

The next morning at a side creek he found vegetation slid down and up where something had crossed, with one large clear footprint in a sandbar, which he photographed with his foot alongside for scale.
