Likely Sasquatch activity around farm property near Green River gamelands
At about 2 a.m. during a break in a storm, the witness heard something at the backyard wire fence and went outside armed with a relative. They heard footsteps and loud cracks first mistaken for gunfire and fired weapons toward the sound. The cracking was then recognized as wood splitting as a huge tree was pushed over, crashing down and shaking the house, after which the family heard loud footfalls running away.
Near collision during an early morning sighting on Hwy. 53 outside Jacksonville
Early on a mid-August morning the witness was traveling north on Highway 53 when a tall, muscular bipedal figure ran across the road in front of the vehicle without looking toward it. The witness described it crossing in about four strides and continuing into the woods while a trailing car slowed behind.
Campers have morning sighting in Uwharrie National Forest
The witness and his father were driving back toward their campsite in the national forest in the morning when they saw a large upright figure on and crossing the dirt road. The figure briefly stopped, looked toward them, then stepped off the road and walked downhill into the woods, at one point completely blocking a roadside sign from view. They drove to the spot where it left the road and found the brush undisturbed and no tracks.
Deep impressions seen in the snow
The witness and companions drove to the summit of Mt. Mitchell in snow and spotted deep impressions in a roadside snowbank on the way down at night. They returned in daylight and examined a trackway of large prints in 18-inch-deep snow leading up a steep bank into the woods. The prints were about 14 by 7 inches with faint possible toe marks and no claws, and the stride suggested a biped that climbed in two steps and stepped over a three-foot-high branch. They searched the road in both directions without finding a crossing point and concluded the animal had traveled along the road.
