The witness was driving with family on the interstate in the early evening before dark. He looked across the opposite lanes and noticed a tall dark bipedal figure near the tree line, then watched it turn and walk into the woods. The family members in the vehicle did not see it. He later described the figure as tall, dark, lean yet muscular, with low-hanging arms and fluid movement.

Two scouts hiding in brush during an evening Capture the Flag game at a Boy Scout camp reportedly flushed a tall, hair-covered biped. The creature moved away through the woods while both watched, and they then left the area quickly. The account was relayed secondhand by a fellow camper and later supplemented by a phone conversation with one of the witnesses.

The witness and extended family had arrived late for a summer visit at the grandparents' mountain home and were talking inside. An older relative noticed something at the high kitchen window, prompting several men to go outside with firearms. In fall 1986 the witness was sitting in a parked truck at night in Hell's Hollow talking with a companion. A large dark-brown biped estimated at 7 to 8 feet tall walked past within a few feet of the front of the truck and disappeared into thick brush. The witness drove away quickly and believed the companion had not seen the figure.
