The witness reports ongoing nighttime disturbances over about a month, coinciding with logging on an adjacent property. Claimed activity includes tree knocks, footsteps and running around the house, growling outside, and slaps or thuds against the house. The family reports feeling watched while walking from their parked car to the house, the outside dog refusing to leave the porch after dark, and one night a branch landing on the porch followed by a shotgun shot into the air to scare whatever was there.

The witness returned to the site of a large footprint found the previous day to take photographs. He banged sticks together for about ten minutes to try to provoke a response. Immediately after one knock he heard an extremely loud high-pitched scream or roar that frightened him. He ran down a steep brushy hill back to the house without looking back.

In August 2003 the witness left relatives fishing to hunt ginseng on a ridge near Yatesville Lake. He claimed hearing wood-like knocks and rocks moving through the trees, then seeing a large upright hair-covered figure watching him from across a hollow. He said he spoke to it, then hurried down the mountain hearing crunching steps and more thrown rocks behind him, and then packed his family out of the area.
