The witness noticed a large dark hairy figure crawling low across the field dragging its rear legs and using its long arms. The witness described it as at least 6 to 7 feet tall, stocky, with dark brown medium-length hair, but could not discern facial features. After going a short distance the witness looked up a hill to the left and saw a very large hair-covered biped standing motionless among small pines and looking toward them. In 1978 the witness was picnicking with family near Wellington Lake in the afternoon when she saw a white-furred bipedal creature about 60 feet away. The creature repeatedly stepped out from behind a boulder and ducked back as a companion turned to look, repeating this four to five times before disappearing. The companion never saw it. The creature alternated between bipedal and stooped postures and moved swiftly and silently, striking the witness as playful rather than frightening.

The reporter states he was reportedly present but has no memory of the incident.

The witness was at home at night when called outside by a relative to listen to a distant low moaning howl lasting several minutes while many dogs barked. The sound seemed to fade as if moving away and frightened the witness. No creature was seen and no tracks were found. The witness states similar howls occurred a couple more times that summer.
