The witness and companions were elk hunting and hiking up Spencer Butte on a rainy morning when two of them heard a distant yowl. At the top the witness found an alder shaking without wind and heard something moving away. Shortly after the witness found a large left-foot print with distinct toes in mud and gravel and photographed it.

On a later night return to the same hole, the witness and a companion heard a baseball-sized rock splash, a low moan turning to a high scream, and something moving rapidly uphill through trees while calling.
