The witness was backpacking around Timothy Lake and sleeping in a tent. Around 3 a.m. on two nights, the witness heard loud repeated howl-like yells from across the lake that lasted several minutes. On the second night, immediately after the vocalizations ended, the witness heard a loud wood knock from nearby to the south.

Over three days they reported loud screams from a nearby ridge, nighttime wood knocks, heavy steps and snapping twigs, and found their camp table apparently bitten through. They moved the bait pile away from camp, later found most of it missing with a wet sweet dog-like odor at the site.

The noises continued until shortly before dawn. In the morning, possible unfamiliar tracks and a trail of pushed-down grass with long strides were found in a field behind a stream.

She heard a low grunting or growling sound and then saw a pair of slanted eyes and a hairy head staring at her from a few feet away in the dark. On March 18, 2001, two brothers hiking near Table Rock Wilderness found large bare-foot-like prints in snow that were larger and deeper than their own boot prints. They listened for about 25 minutes as the sound circled the camp while hearing something large moving through brush. About 50 feet away beside a large tree, a tall, wide, brown-furred man-like figure made direct eye contact for a few seconds. It then stepped behind the tree and ran away loudly, snapping branches, after which the witness ran back toward camp and met the companion.
