During an evening hunt the witness and a relative followed the blood trail of a wounded deer. The trail grew faint and straight over obstacles, leading them to infer the deer was being carried. From across a clearing they heard an extremely loud roaring howl, answering growls and whoop-like replies, plus heavy footsteps on a fire lane mistaken for the witness. They never saw the source and later searches found no carcass or sign.

The companions were shaken for hours but later denied the incident, and the witness remains uncertain whether it was a costumed person or a real creature.

After firing into a squirrel nest, they heard an extremely loud roar twice that seemed to shake the woods. In 1977 two companions hunting frogs at a remote pond heard a roar and saw trees moving. One saw a large brown hairy form partly hidden behind a cedar tree and swaying. Both fled on foot while hearing heavy thuds, and one saw a large rock bouncing nearby. A few days later they returned and found a cleared limb bed and a limb torn from a mesquite tree, but no footprints due to rocky ground.

The witness and a companion were in a canoe checking a trotline across the river after midnight while camping with their fathers. From about 30 feet away behind bank vegetation they heard two very loud, low-frequency vocalizations described as howls, grunts and growls that could be felt in the chest. They abandoned the trotline, paddled back and ran to camp, where both adults had been awakened by the sound. The group left the site the next morning and shortened the trip.

Two boys walked from their houses into nearby woods toward a creekbed to shoot BB guns while footsteps seemed to parallel them and close to nearby. While fishing from a boat near shore, the witness smelled a strong musky odor for several minutes, then spotted a tall hair-covered figure partly hidden behind a short tree at the treeline. The figure remained still for a couple minutes, then stood, stepped into the open to look at the boat, and walked slowly uphill into denser forest. A companion in the boat also smelled the odor but did not see the figure.

About 1960, the submitter's husband and two school friends were spending a weekend night inside a relative's cabin when they felt watched and saw a tall hair-covered figure silhouetted by the open refrigerator light. The boys shouted and split up to flee to the car, with the husband reporting something running close behind him that he could hear breathing and smell strongly like moldy skunk. In hindsight he wondered whether the figure was also fleeing and had simply taken the same path.
