A wildlife biologist viewed the first track but considered it contaminated, and later investigators visiting the site found no tracks or signs.

The witness was camping overnight with a scout group on a very cold, windy night when extremely loud wood-on-wood knocks were heard from north of camp. The sounds came as three pairs of knocks and were heard clearly over the wind, with no other campers in that direction. The witness did not investigate that night because of the weather and concern about frightening the children.
