A couple staying overnight in a yurt woke around 2 a.m. to loud howls coming from the east across the river lasting several minutes. About half an hour later they heard louder, closer hollering vocalizations from the woods to the west. They stated the sounds were unfamiliar and unlike a bear, coyote, or bobcat.

An owl flew closely past them, immediately followed by an extremely loud, chest-vibrating roar from nearby cover that lasted several seconds. Over several days and nights they reported heavy impacts, rustling, a skunk-like odor, red eyeshine, wood knocks, whistles, talk-like mumbling, a whoop-ending vocalization, and bent trees and branch structures. The most intense moment was a predawn episode with a deep guttural roar followed by a scream-like sound near camp. They left early after smelling the odor again near a plum thicket.
