Strange, large animal seen at night on a rural road near Auburn
Late on a summer night the witness was riding in a car with three companions on gravel roads near Auburn, Iowa. A very large black-haired animal crossed the road in front of the car in the headlights, clearing the road in one to two steps. The witness described an arched back, odd strides, rear-bent legs and a vaguely dog-like face, and estimated it was taller than the vehicle and larger than a horse.

Six people hiked up a forest road at night to revisit the witness's prior sighting area. After making knocks and whoop calls, they reported hearing a return knock, whoops, a guttural grumble and a moan, and seeing multiple eye-shines. Later in a quarry area they reported watching a human-like figure in night-vision goggles that crouched when noticed, followed by a rock thrown nearby, after which they left.

The witness thought they looked like Bigfoots but considered a hoax or soldiers as possible explanations, and noted a large military helicopter flew overhead just after.

After putting the car in gear she saw a large dark bipedal figure leap from a hillside across the road into a ravine in under ten seconds. Before dawn the witness was driving slowly on an icy highway when headlights revealed a dark upright figure paused in the ditch. The figure then ran bipedally across the road in a few very long strides and disappeared into woods near a vacant farm. The witness described it as tall, bulky and black with long arms and immediately called the spouse. A later daytime check of the site found no tracks.

The witness was driving home at night and scanning a field when they noticed an unfamiliar light-colored, long-haired animal on all fours standing still. The animal was described as larger than a dog but shorter than a buck deer, very heavily built, and kept its head down as the witness drove past. The witness was walking a puppy along a bikeway when the dog began barking. Ahead, the witness saw a very large dark hairy biped walking along the path shoulder for several seconds before it crossed the path and descended into a wooded gully. The witness left and returned about an hour later with another dog and found and photographed a large footprint where the creature had walked.

The witness was driving east in a work van when they saw a tall, brownish-grey upright figure walking just inside a woodline about 100 yards from the road. The figure moved east then turned south toward the river and was seen between trees for about 10 seconds. Other drivers behind the witness also slowed, which the witness thought was to look at the same thing.
