While turkey hunting the witness cut across a sawgrass field and found a large piled mound of pulled-up sawgrass interpreted as a bed or nest, larger than a pickup truck bed. He also noted nearby palmetto palms stripped of branches. An investigator later visited the remote site with the witness, measured and photographed the structure and examined its construction.

A few minutes later a loud snap like a small tree or large branch breaking occurred about 20 feet behind them. Frightened, they abandoned their mushrooms and left the area without seeing the source.

One animal then charged through brush, knocked vegetation down, and a tree was heard being ripped down, followed by silence and faint hiding sounds. Neither witness obtained a visual, and they left without crossing the river to investigate.

After shooting a deer in fall 2013, the witness left his stand to retrieve and field dress it in a ravine. While doing so he heard loud roar-like screams and howls from two unseen sources to his left and right that seemed to converge toward his position. The witness and two companions camped in the Mt Hood National Forest with a barrel of animal entrails intended as bait. Over three days they reported loud screams from a nearby ridge, nighttime wood knocks, heavy steps and snapping twigs, and found their camp table apparently bitten through. They moved the bait pile away from camp, later found most of it missing with a wet sweet dog-like odor at the site.

They heard knocking sounds like a stick hitting a tree, then a very loud prolonged cracking like a thick log breaking nearby. A couple camping alone in a state forestry heard large movements around camp all evening. Around 2 a.m. the husband saw a tall hair-covered biped beside their SUV and illuminated it before it ran past him over a gate into the woods. Later both heard knocks and rocks striking their tent for about an hour until a large rock tore the tent roof. Next morning they found partial prints and fresh bark damage before leaving.

Late at night the witness took the dog into the backyard overlooking a river and heard grunt-like vocalizations from the opposite bank. From the deck the witness heard something large moving through brush and keeping pace with them, then heard a loud crack, a large splash, wading steps, and a rock thrown across the river. The witness heard water dripping and shaking off fur and a strange snort before the animal moved away through underbrush. The next morning a previously intact rotten stump across the river was found split with half lying at the river's edge.
