Two people talking loudly while hunting heard two or three loud, high-pitched screams described as like a sick cow. They took cover behind a log as loud branch-breaking and thumping sounds seemed to approach them, then the sounds stopped abruptly and they left the area quickly.

Three people fishing from a boat along a densely vegetated shoreline heard rustling and thrashing suggesting a very large animal nearby. They then heard a very loud, chilling shrill that frightened them, prompting them to leave quickly. As they left, they continued to hear the animal moving rapidly through dense woods uphill and repeating the shrill at intervals until it was roughly a quarter to half mile away.

While trying to sleep the witness heard movement in the treeline followed by a grunt and a loud unfamiliar scream estimated 50 to 100 yards away. The witness was sleeping outside on the fringe of a large group camp in a remote pine forest when awakened around 1:30 a.m. by a loud, unfamiliar scream and sounds of a large animal moving through brush within about 20 yards. Too frightened to look, the witness hid in a sleeping bag. A similar scream was heard again one to two hours later farther off, and other campers also reported hearing the wails.
