The witness was camped alone with a dog near a sinkhole on a farm bluff to feed horses in the morning. After building a fire and cooking, loud grunts, growls and scream-like screeches came from the sinkhole while many young trees shook violently despite little wind. Horses stared then fled, the dog stayed close shaking, and a brief odd odor was noticed. Frightened, the witness doused the fire and left with the dog, and reports avoiding woods since.

During an afternoon thunderstorm a lightning strike hit across the creek, after which they heard a growling or grunting sound and branches breaking high in trees moving rapidly up the creek and mountain out of hearing. The witness briefly saw a large shadow moving in the woods but nothing conclusive, and they could not search for prints because a fire from the strike caused evacuation.

He initially told others the pursuer was a bear but later concluded it had walked on two legs and was a bigfoot.

In August 1964 two teenagers were walking back to a family cabin in Big Cottonwood Canyon after dark when they heard footsteps matching their movements and a low unearthly growl. They then heard the nearby outhouse door open and slam, saw nothing when they turned on an outside light, later heard the door fling open with crashing in brush, and spent the night upstairs.

Three companions walking back from swimming along a forestry road felt watched and heard snapping branches and rustling paralleling their movement. When they shouted and threw rocks toward the roadside bushes, rocks were thrown back at them while growling sounds were heard and the accompanying dog barked. Frightened, they ran to a nearby activity centre and later told a parent, who suggested a bear.

On a fall evening just before dusk, the witness, then a child, and the father were at their farm when the father heard a loud disturbance in a wooded valley below a field. The father took a tape recorder and walked toward the sounds of a loud growling/roaring creature apparently fighting a neighbor's dog while the child waited uphill by a feed trough. The creature was never seen because it was too dark in the woods, and the father returned uphill. The neighbor's dog was never seen again.

The witness was scouting for turkeys in spring on the southern side of Jacks Mountain when turkey-like clucking from dense brush drew him closer. Each time he approached, a very low guttural growl came from the brush where nothing could be seen, stopping when he backed away while the clucking resumed. In the third summer the witness and a relative walked toward the sound with baseball bats and got within about 25 yards. The witness and two companions were coon hunting at night in a hollow when their dogs became frightened and refused to lead. From 80 to 100 yards ahead they heard an extremely loud 6- to 7-second bellow-roar rising to high-pitched cries, then later a low 5-second growl from about 50 yards and a second shorter high-pitched scream after reaching the ridge top. They never saw the source and returned home without further incident.
