Man describes his father's sighting near Lakeland
Late at night the witness stepped onto the porch for a smoke and heard an unfamiliar terrifying vocalization. Shining a light, the witness saw the silhouette of a tall bipedal figure near the pond that stood up and ran off, with vocalizations continuing fainter into the distance. A relative living in the house came outside and heard the final vocalization and a distant gunshot, and another relative later arrived to find the area empty.

A driver coasting downhill around a corner encountered a hair-covered biped crossing the road ahead in daylight. The creature first walked and then ran very fast, leaping into roadside brush without looking toward the driver. The observation lasted from about 100 feet down to about 40 feet.

A large fur-covered figure running upright crossed a few yards in front of her headlights from west to east. Two companions watching lightning during a storm reportedly heard loud pig-like grunts and screams and noisy movement in dense brush. They also reported seeing red reflected eyes spaced a few inches apart. The animal was described as large, but its size could not be judged because of a steep slope, and no tracks or hair were found afterward.

The reporter relayed relatives' account of hearing a howl in early afternoon during a heavy rainstorm. The sound was described as similar to a howl heard in the same location in May but about half as long. Neighborhood dogs howled and barked in response to the sound.

A man hauling firewood was driving down a dirt road in a canyon when he spotted what he first thought was a bear near a cattle salt box. When he was about 400 yards away, the dark figure stood up on two legs and quickly walked 40 to 50 yards down into a steep creek bottom. He did not stop to look for tracks and kept driving past the spot.

Three people in two pickups crested a hill at dawn and noticed a fresh set of large tracks looping across an open hillside in new snow. A relative glassed the area with binoculars, became visibly upset, and said he thought he had seen bigfoot. The group did not approach the tracks or the area and avoided it altogether. The account was relayed secondhand by a close friend of one of the men.

A driver stopped to help two motorists whose car had left the road after swerving to avoid a large hairy creature chasing a deer across the road. While fetching a rope from his truck to pull their car out, he walked directly into the creature standing behind his truck. He noted a foul smell, red eyes, and a low growl before it walked to the woods edge and then into the woods. He then helped move the car and continued his trip, shaken by the encounter.

Two men walking through very dense brush heard a loud roar-like sound ending in a high-pitched shriek. They then smelled a very strong foul odor and heard unseen brush movement, followed by a second, closer howl. Both men fled through the brush and exited about half a mile from where they entered. The account was relayed to the reporter by a relative of one participant, who said the participant remained frightened of that woods afterward.

The witness was sitting inside a mobile home with an infant after dark when a dog began barking and would not leave its house. After turning out the lights and waiting, the witness saw a tall figure approach the trailer window breathing heavily and froze until it walked away. The next morning the witness found paths of flattened brush leading toward a creek bottom.

Two hunters walking toward a river heard a splash and saw a dark, muscular, hairy creature with its back to them. The creature pulled a cypress stump from the mud, threw it into the river, then turned to look at them and walked briskly away along the riverbank. The men then found large human-like footprints at the spot where it had stood.

The reporter's father was squirrel hunting in deep cover near Patoka Lake when he noticed what looked like legs across a slough by a tree. The figure left on two feet and headed toward the lake after appearing to notice it was observed. The father hurried out and said nothing until he was miles away, then advised returning only with a larger-caliber rifle.

The witness was driving to work on a county road when he noticed a large dark figure in an empty hayfield. On approaching closer, the figure looked human-shaped, very tall, and covered in black hair. The creature noticed the vehicle and moved quickly toward cover at a nearby creek. The witness later returned to the site with a relative to look for traces but found nothing.

While deer hunting in the morning, the witness and a companion heard loud noise from a wooded gully and then met an elderly hunter climbing out. The elderly hunter appeared pale and frightened and told them he had just seen a huge bigfoot at the bottom and had dropped his rifle while fleeing. The witness and companion later recovered the abandoned scoped rifle, but the elderly hunter kept walking away and left.

In the late 1970s in December, the witness's friend found a short line of very large barefoot humanlike tracks in mud along a strip-mine pond while running traps. The prints showed five toes and a stride the finder said was too great for him to match. Two witnesses were paddling a rowboat along a brushy creek at night to check limb lines. They heard something moving with them in the dense brush along the bank. A large rock was thrown downward and landed in the water in front of their boat, after which they left the area.

Both fled home in fear and said the figure did not follow them.

Five people were camping together at dawn when they heard rapid crashing and thrashing through nearby underbrush with snapping twigs. This was followed by a loud, high-pitched scream described as like a woman screaming, estimated to be 30-50 yards away. The group was terrified and left the area immediately.
