The witness was camping with companions at a provincial park near Port Alberni. While staying alone at the campsite to tend the fire and collecting wood, he noticed something in the bushes that he first took for a bear and then for a person. After making eye contact, the creature stood upright and walked away on two legs, moving very quietly. The witness returned to the campsite and did not tell his companions what he had seen at the time.

Initially thought to be a moose, it was seen in profile at closer range and identified by the witness as a Sasquatch. The witness walked into an abandoned gravel pit area to gather firewood and saw a large bulky animal in a gully about 50 yards away standing on two legs. The animal's back was turned and its head remained hidden by foliage while it appeared to dig in bushes. When the witness retreated toward the truck, the animal climbed the opposite slope on two legs using its forearms and disappeared into trees at the top.
