Hikers are startled by unusual sounds in Staunton State Park
The witness and a companion were resting quietly on a rocky outcropping during a daytime hike when they heard a low growl-like exhalation immediately followed by a higher-pitched whoop from the forest below. The sounds were attributed to a single unseen animal about 30-40 yards away that seemed startled by a passing mountain biker. They searched the area a few minutes later but found nothing and heard nothing further.

A solo hiker descending a high mountain trail heard a very loud scream-growl vocalization and stopped to scan. He saw a tall, hairy biped about 50 yards away at the forest edge staring at him for several seconds, tilting its head before turning and running fast into the pines out of sight. He then continued down the trail anxiously without photographing it.

The witness and three companions camped over multiple rainy nights. They heard persistent huffing and a growl, experienced silence and a sense of being watched, and reported a dark shape blocking a camper window. When leaving they later found muddy primate-like handprints high on the camper and a trailer lock twisted and broken.
Hunters observe dark creature pounding rocks together
The witness and a relative were hunting elk when they followed a strong smell and clashing rock sounds to a ridge. They observed a large hair-covered animal squatting in a dry creek bed striking two rocks together while vocalizing, which then stood, leapt the creek, and ran upslope out of sight. They later collected two chipped rocks from the spot but found no tracks or hair.
