The witness was walking home at night past a vacant lot filled with small alder trees when he noticed what looked like a bush that had not been there before. When he stepped toward it, the shape stood up, turned, and crashed through the alders and down over a hill toward a creek while he ran home. The next morning he found bent and snapped alders and deep impressions leading through brush over the hill.

The witness was lying in a tent at night in woods near Mendocino when loud stomping and crashing of small trees was heard about fifty yards away. The sounds lasted about 30 seconds and were interpreted as a biped moving quickly, apparently pursued by barking dogs. After the crashing stopped, a dog was heard yelping as if badly injured, then silence fell. The next morning the witness found broken vegetation but no clear sign of its cause and moved camp.

Four deer hunters stopped at a relative's ranch for lunch and fed hogs when horses in a back pasture became highly agitated for about 30 minutes. They found very large, deep tracks circling the pasture with a strong wet-dog and rotten-egg odor still present. They followed the bipedal trackway to a very steep hill where the steps ascended out of reach, tried and failed to replicate the stride and step-up, then left without ever seeing the maker.

They smelled something like something dead, heard heavy thudding footsteps and grunts, and saw a very tall figure swaying behind a tree about thirty yards away, with limb-breaking sounds to the side. They fled to a road and got a ride back to camp.

No creature was reportedly seen clearly, and the interpretation as possible Sasquatch activity developed over later years.

On a January 1976 afternoon the witness walked alone to a country club hill to sled. At the top he found bare footprints in snow with clear toe and heel outlines, sunk deep and spaced about three of his strides apart, running north to south into trees.
