A family camping at Sunrise Beach heard branch-breaking sounds overnight and the next morning found a very large footprint in a dried creek bed. Shortly after, they saw a large brownish hair-covered creature watching them from behind a tree on a hillside, which then walked away toward the campground road. The father also reported seeing it cross the road ahead while lifting a wire out of its way, and the family quickly left the area.

The witness was lying in a tent at night in woods near Mendocino when loud stomping and crashing of small trees was heard about fifty yards away. The sounds lasted about 30 seconds and were interpreted as a biped moving quickly, apparently pursued by barking dogs. After the crashing stopped, a dog was heard yelping as if badly injured, then silence fell. The next morning the witness found broken vegetation but no clear sign of its cause and moved camp.

The witness and two companions were snow sledding at night when they heard loud noise and commotion beyond their firelight and fled to the house. The next day they returned and found very large tracks in the snow leading from and back into nearby woods, with tracks around a tree with stripped branches. Four deer hunters stopped at a relative's ranch for lunch and fed hogs when horses in a back pasture became highly agitated for about 30 minutes. They found very large, deep tracks circling the pasture with a strong wet-dog and rotten-egg odor still present. They followed the bipedal trackway to a very steep hill where the steps ascended out of reach, tried and failed to replicate the stride and step-up, then left without ever seeing the maker.

The witness recalls numerous puzzling occurrences from 30-40 years ago on a family farm of about 100 acres with orchards and woods. These included trees reportedly moved to block trails, an elaborate woven arch structure, large human-like footprints with long strides, rocks and a branch thrown near the witness, loud clicking exchanges, and nighttime disturbances around the barn and house. No creature was reportedly seen clearly, and the interpretation as possible Sasquatch activity developed over later years.

On a January 1976 afternoon the witness walked alone to a country club hill to sled. At the top he found bare footprints in snow with clear toe and heel outlines, sunk deep and spaced about three of his strides apart, running north to south into trees. He felt uneasy, sledded once, felt scared and as if watched while leaving, and headed home.

Hiker encounters large footprints
In the early spring of 1976 the witness was hiking uphill from a cabin when they found very large flat-footed tracks in soft dirt in a Ponderosa Pine forest. The tracks were fairly deep and appeared to come up the hillside from the cabin area. The witness did not see the track-maker and later read library publications about prior regional sightings.
