They moved the bait pile away from camp, later found most of it missing with a wet sweet dog-like odor at the site.

Two people exploring logging roads by jeep stopped to scout a side road on foot. They heard knocking sounds like a stick hitting a tree, then a very loud prolonged cracking like a thick log breaking nearby.
