Country boys have frightening nightime encounter 50 miles south of Louisville
The witness and two companions stopped on a rural back road at night and heard a distant knock, then sounds of wood breaking after the witness whistled. After driving on to turn around and stopping again, the witness shone a light into the woods and saw a tall dark hairy figure with eyeshine watching them. The encounter lasted only a few seconds before the group drove away in fear.

Two campers floating and fishing the Lower Buffalo River heard loud monkey-like vocalizations from the bank and later camped on a gravel bar. Through the night they reported repeated wood knocks, yells, chatter, whistles, a tree snap, and cantaloupe-sized rocks landing in the river from the ridge across from camp. They lit the camp, kept fire watch in shifts, and at dawn packed and paddled out after a final rock fell in front of them.

Over spring and summer 2022 the witness repeatedly visited a remote trout pond to fish from a canoe. During visits the witness heard multiple tree falls and many tree knocks without seeing the source, with activity increasing to a peak in mid-August. On a mid-August visit the witness found a birch section leaned against another tree at the water's edge that had not been noticed before and later found intact birch bark on rocks blocking the trail. The witness reported strange occurrences only while on the pond fishing, not while hiking in, out, or around.

After climbing into the tree stand and turning off a headlamp, the witness heard loud knocks like a stick hitting a tree from about 100 yards away in the woods, first four knocks then later two knocks. From inside the blind he heard coyotes, then hollering, rock-banging or wood-knock sounds, and whoops as something ran up the slope, crossed the road, and stopped in thick brush behind him. He then heard loud raspy breathing and growling and smelled a strong obnoxious odor for about five minutes before the animal ran away along the treeline and the woods went quiet.

She interpreted the sounds as coming from two individuals exchanging signals. After losing sleep they left for a family cabin and returned next morning to find the tent zipper partly open with the lantern still on.
