Train engineer reports track find and vocalizations on Stevens Pass
A railroad engineer pulling a train out of a siding in slushy snow saw four fresh, widely spaced, large footprints with splayed toes from the cab and believed something had walked down the middle of the tracks. The train could not stop at the time and a crew member was skeptical. Follow-up details recorded approximate track size and stride.
Man hunting deer finds unusual feces and hears animal
While hunting deer alone in the morning, the witness heard repeated sounds like logs or poles being thrown, then found a tree with bark removed, a large packed bed, a human-like track, and unfamiliar scat. After glimpsing brown fur duck behind a log, the witness heard an extremely loud low roar-like yell from behind with crashing, then heard crashing and throwing sounds staying out of sight while leaving for about 200 yards. No full animal was clearly seen.
Hikers find tracks and a possible nest
Two people backpacking found several large fresh bipedal footprints on a steep forest slope. One track was measured at 16 inches long, with a stride over four feet that was difficult to replicate on the slope. They followed the tracks uphill to a large volcano-shaped nest of pine needles and photographed the track and nest.
Unidentified sound near Lake Chelan, Washington (1985)
Two hikers ascended from Lake Chelan toward Cub Lake on a sunny summer afternoon. After entering the lake basin they repeatedly heard large trees falling nearby about every two minutes and felt the ground thud, with about five falls on the way in and five more while leaving. They never saw any trees fall or anything unusual. Feeling unsafe, they turned back and descended to camp, interpreting the sounds as something trying to drive them away.
