The witness and a companion were walking along a dark road by a river and cliff while returning to their campsite at night. They heard very heavy footfalls from the other side of the road that seemed to follow them. When they stopped, the sounds stopped after a branch-breaking noise. Frightened, they ran back to camp and left at first light.

The witness arrived with a companion at a house after a Christmas party and heard an odd duck-like sound. The companion stopped while the witness kept walking toward the sound. Two drivers at a nearby intersection reported something huge walking between their trucks toward the witness, then running away so fast it outpaced a truck down an alley.

During an evening hunt the witness and a relative followed the blood trail of a wounded deer. The trail grew faint and straight over obstacles, leading them to infer the deer was being carried. From across a clearing they heard an extremely loud roaring howl, answering growls and whoop-like replies, plus heavy footsteps on a fire lane mistaken for the witness. They never saw the source and later searches found no carcass or sign.

After his stepfather died, the witness returned to the family land in East Texas to look for trees where money and papers had been hidden. Near the area of a childhood sighting he smelled the same strong pungent odor and heard heavy, widely spaced footsteps moving through overgrown brush. He froze and backed away as the steps receded, feeling the impacts and hearing vegetation being broken aside, sensing other watchers but no aggression and feeling the creature remembered him.

After all feeling watched and making monkey-like noises, they heard a close, very loud growl followed by a high-to-low scream-roar they felt in their chests. The witness and companions returned at night to the same lakeside spot where they had been frightened the night before. They heard a distant roar that suddenly sounded a few feet away, lit the area with a spotlight, and saw a tall upright creature with its back to them that ran and then paused. The creature roared again when shot at and pushed over a green cottonwood before the group left.

In early July 1988 the witness was alone at a summer camp when rustling and screams were heard from a rocky ledge above and a white upright figure was glimpsed moving behind trees. Two companions ran down the hill saying they had encountered a large white humanoid ape-like creature with long arms on a trail that screamed and fled after eye contact. The companions were shaken for hours but later denied the incident, and the witness remains uncertain whether it was a costumed person or a real creature.

The witness and companions were cooking catfish at a hunting camp when a noise came from the well where fish guts had been left. The witness went toward the well with a light and rifle, heard a moan, and saw a large dark form that stood upright. After shouting warnings and firing shots in the air, the witness said the form moved off and footsteps were heard in leaves. The next day large five-toed tracks were found at the well and most of the guts were gone.

The witness and a companion were inside the home at a table when they heard a noise at a window. A figure appeared at another window very close to the witness's face and remained for a couple minutes before walking away to the east. A relative who arrived later found footprints behind the house.

The guest and the same cousin were hunting with dogs at night along a creek bed near a dirt road curve. Both felt watched and heard extra steps behind them, then returned toward the parked truck. At the road the dogs froze, and the guest's spotlight revealed a hairy figure across the road by a culvert that covered its face with a hand before stepping into the dry creek as they left.

The witness and a relative were walking between ponds at night with lights when they spotted a tall human-like figure watching from behind a tree. After the witness whistled, the figure stepped into the road and took a few walking steps toward them, prompting both to flee back to camp. The witness was on a picnic date by a sandy creek in Texas in the evening. While carrying items back to his vehicle he heard a deep grunt, then watched a dark hair-covered biped run upright down a hill and sprint across deep sand. It shortened its stride to leap about 12 feet across the creek, pulled its foot from the far bank, and continued up the other side. His companion also saw it and asked who that was.

Late one afternoon the witness walked through a creek bottom toward a relative's deer stand. He smelled a foul odor and heard something large moving in a swampy thicket. The animal crossed an opening 50 to 75 yards away, and he watched it for about 30 seconds as it covered about 30 feet in a few long steps. He described it as a 6 to 7 foot tall, broad, stooped biped covered in dark brown hair.

About fifty yards away, at least three very large animals began screaming, cackling, and babbling like primates. The witness and a companion were sitting in a parked car at night near a creek when wildlife sounds stopped and bipedal footsteps approached. The witness attempted to drive away and briefly saw a broad-shouldered brownish-black animal moving on two legs into the creek. The pair left to get help and later returned with others.

The witness and a companion entered a cleared pasture near dark to look for a relative and approached a figure they first mistook for the relative. From about fifty feet they realized it was a hairy biped about six and a half feet tall. The creature turned to look at them, grunted, then ran toward the woods and stepped over a fence as they screamed.
Whoop in Texas (1982)
The witness, then about 11, went with his father to a surveyor's home in deep East Texas and followed the surveyor's young son down a thin trail behind the house to a deadfall. The son gave whooping calls, after which the witness heard approaching footsteps, heavy breathing like a horse, a deep word-like vocalization and a powerful percussive sound, then breaking limbs. The witness fled back to the house as a tall dark figure ran alongside through the brush, stopping when he screamed for his father.

The witness and his father were scouting a river-bottom area for deer stand sites at dusk when they heard a loud, long, high-pitched scream three times from the edge of the woods about 150 yards away. They could not see the source as darkness fell. Perceiving the vocalizations as directed at them to leave, they ended scouting and returned to camp.

A family of four stopped on private land to let the children play and to do target shooting in a deep ravine. A large grayish hair-covered animal lunged into the ravine close in front of the adults, paused to look at them, then leaped out and ran toward the parked car area. The family retreated to the car with the children and saw the animal stop at the brush line in front of the car.

The witness and his brother were hunting in river bottoms when the witness lay on a game trail. A tall hairy creature climbed the far bank, ate leaves, then walked into the field toward him. The witness fled on foot as the creature dropped to all fours and appeared to cut him off, then he found large tracks with his brother.
