The witness was sleeping overnight at a companion's house after hunting nearby. At about 3 a.m. the witness woke to a howling or wailing sound from the woods outside that lasted 30 seconds to a minute. A companion sleeping nearby did not wake. The witness stayed in bed frightened and later felt the sound matched a howl recording heard on the archive website.

The witness brought friends by car to the cornfield and walked with a friend atop lined hay bales toward the woods. They found something hunkered by the bales, shone a small light on it, and it stood up very tall and screamed. The witness fled, ran off the bales, severely broke an ankle, and required hospital surgery.

Footsteps followed them and stopped when they stopped, then something circled them whooping and making gibberish sounds while another answered from the right. Two people hunting deer near a creek crossing watched a shape first mistaken for a stump move, crouch, stand upright and stretch. The witness observed through a rifle scope an apelike face and hair-covered body moving along the creek for about ten minutes. As they backed away, a growl and a single loud scream were heard from its direction before it ran and leapt across the creek, after which the pair left.

The witness was driving toward the beach at dusk when a large hairy creature stood in the road. The car glanced the creature, then the witness stopped and the creature got up, approached, and chased the car, striking the rear. The witness drove away and later found a dented quarter panel with hair, a shattered spoiler, and a lingering foul smell on the car.

The witness and a friend parked in a car on a wide tractor path near creek bottoms at night to drink before a party. A very large hair-covered biped took one long stride into the path about 20-25 feet away and faced the car for a minute or more, breathing heavily and flexing its fists. After a whistle-like sound from the woods, the creature made a dismissive huff, stepped out of sight in one stride, and left silently. The two men drove away and did not return.

The witness, a teenager on a deer-hunting trip on private wooded land in North Carolina, was waiting in a tree stand in the morning when he noticed a strong bad odor and then heard twigs snapping. He watched the upper half of a large dark-furred creature about 50 yards away standing in one spot eating leaves for several minutes before it walked away while still audible. When companions arrived he recounted the sighting and they suggested it was a bear, which he rejected because he had seen a bear earlier that day.

They fled toward the house as a tall hairy creature pursued them and later stood over their campfire throwing logs aside. On a November 1976 afternoon two young men hunting squirrels walked toward a river when a large hairy biped came up from the river bottom toward them. It stopped about 30 feet away, looked at them, snapped a small dead tree and vocalized. The pair retreated over a ridge and ran, later discussing whether it had been a person in costume.

Hearing a scuffle, the witness turned and saw a tall fur-covered creature with long arms that looked back while moving around the side of the house. The witness dropped a pan and was unable to scream.
