They heard noises from the opposite bank and then saw a large hairy brown-and-black animal watch them for several seconds. The animal then moved away downstream through brush on two legs with a long loping gait. The witness noted the dog remained calm, unlike its usual reaction to wild animals.

The witness was camped alone in a remote meadow with pack goats and dogs while tending a sick animal. At dusk the animals became alarmed and the witness exited a tent to see a tall erect chestnut-furred figure about 12 feet away staring directly. After a mutual stare the figure made a low rumble, a second figure was glimpsed behind it, and both left quickly with ground vibrations felt. The witness remained overnight without further incident and left the next morning.

After one person in the party gave a whoop, they heard three loud roar-like vocalizations with pauses between them. The witness and a companion were archery hunting in high-elevation basins in western Colorado when they heard a single, extremely loud scream lasting several seconds from the direction of their camp. In July 1997 while riding a mountain bike alone, the witness heard a loud crashing noise like a large branch being broken. When the witness turned toward the sound it went silent, which the witness interpreted as something hiding rather than moving away like an elk would.

Something pressed into the side of the tent by the friend's head and then moved down the side as if a hand dragged along it. Both fled to the car, saw nothing when they lit the area, and slept in the car.
