Three companions were fishing quietly from a dock in the early morning darkness when they heard three extremely loud, deep whoops from nearby behind them. The sound was followed by a period of complete silence, then faint distant chatter described as like children from across the lake. They could see nothing in the dark and later found they could not reproduce the volume and depth of the whoops.

In the morning the camp was undisturbed and a rock was found in a hammock behind the camper.

After about fifteen to twenty minutes the witness and one companion heard a loud, scream-like howl from woods about fifty yards away. The sound was described as inhuman and very loud, lasting about thirty seconds and heard only once.

Five or six howls followed as the source moved over a mile in about two minutes, seeming to face the witness while moving downhill.
