About 20 years ago, the witness and a cousin were walking early in the morning toward the paved road to hitchhike to work. From the treeline across the road they heard frightening noises that seemed to follow them, stopping when they stopped and moving when they ran, with branches snapping audible. With no nearby houses for refuge, they flagged down a passing truck and got in.

The witness arrived before dawn to bowhunt from a tree stand overlooking a creek. After sunrise the surrounding wildlife fell silent, several rocks were thrown toward the stand from behind, followed by loud footsteps, branch breaking, heavy breathing and a musky odor approaching to within a few yards behind the witness. After remaining behind the witness for several minutes and emitting a snarling growl, the unseen presence retreated uphill, after which wildlife sounds resumed and the witness left the area.
Hunter recalls hearing noises in woods, seeing hairy legs walking through brush
The witness sat alone in a cedar thicket before dawn while hunting. After a loud crash, the woods went quiet, then a pungent odor and heavy steps were noticed. Through low limbs the witness glimpsed very large bipedal movement showing only dark shaggy hair from the knees down, which rushed away loudly when the wind shifted, prompting the witness to call out and then leave.

The witness was driving in warm October weather to pick up his girlfriend when he noticed a fur-coated figure on the roadside. He slowed, turned around, stopped, and followed it down into a field along the river to understand what he saw. The figure quickly turned, snarled and growled, prompting him to return to his car and later tell his parents, who did not believe him.

At age 17 the witness and two friends ditched school to explore near Lake Arrowhead and found a vacant UCLA camp. He became separated and saw an upright brown figure about 50 yards away that quickly left without audible departure. The witness was bow-hunting deer from a tree stand beside a cut path through pines at dusk. After hearing movement and deep grunts approach, the witness saw a large bipedal figure jump across the path while emitting a loud scream. The figure ran into a wooded area, and a neighbor also heard the screaming and wood-breaking sounds.

Two companions were setting up camp for the night after hunting when they heard prolonged loud screaming from across a lake. He could not see the source even with binoculars, but saw branches shaking about nine to ten feet up and two basketball-sized rocks roll out of the cover toward him. Feeling watched and unnerved, he walked out calmly the way he had come while the sound continued until he rounded a bend in the trail.
Loud Screams Heard by Hunters While Camping Near a Natural Spring
Two hunters were camped overnight during deer season when they noticed a bipedal figure crossing a moonlit clearing. Shortly after, they heard loud screaming and crashing in brush on the hillside, followed by a log coming down, a strong urine-like odor, and renewed screams. Later, from inside their tent, both saw a very large shadow pass between the campfire and the tent. The next morning they found no tracks but noticed a large log newly present near their vehicle by the spring.

The witness was fly-fishing at a small lake with a companion in the evening while other fishers and campers were also present. A very loud roar that turned into a high-pitched scream was heard repeatedly from timber about 200 yards away and continued as everyone hurried to leave. The witness stated the sound did not match known elk, deer, coyote, or bear sounds from years of logging and hunting experience.

The writer and the boss walked a forestry road looking for lodgepole piles when a very large crack like a thick branch snapping came from dense pines. After two more snaps the boss grew concerned and they watched low branches before heading back to camp. The boss felt it was not a grizzly or black bear.

The witness and platoon were holding overnight beside a road during extended field training after being told to wait until morning to cross. While the witness and a companion sat talking under a tree, a loud scream was heard from the treeline about fifty yards away. The witness described it as sounding like a woman being harmed with a wild quality, and noted soldiers reacted by starting vehicles and moving inside.

A witness and a companion were riding horses on a familiar trail when the witness noticed a dark head-like shape to the side. Shortly after, the companion reported a terrible odor near a hedgerow, and then both heard a prolonged loud moaning or wailing sound from behind. They later returned to the locations but found no trace of the shape or odor, and concluded the experiences were connected.

In August 1987 the witness hiked with five companions near Mount Rainier and walked ahead while others used restrooms. Hearing trampling and smelling a strong body odor, he entered the woods and saw a very tall reddish-brown hairy creature holding a tree. After about thirty seconds of eye contact the creature looked toward the approaching party and walked uphill out of sight, leaving odor behind.

The witness was hiking at Mount Rainier with his wife and two other couples in August 1987 when he walked ahead of the group and heard trampling off the trail. He went about fifty feet into the woods, smelled a strong foul odor, and saw a very tall reddish-brown hairy creature partly obscured by trees. He made eye contact for about thirty seconds, felt a low grunt reverberate, then watched it walk uphill away as his party approached. He told no one at the time and only told his wife about a year later.

Alone at night in the trailer, the writer woke to silence followed by purposeful two-legged marching sounds approaching downhill. The trailer creaked and the visitor stopped, then left quickly after a second creak. In the morning large widely spaced depressions in tall grass led to a stream jump and up to a dense lodgepole grove.

While cutting wood alone near Togwotee Pass, the writer twice heard a scream over saw and muffler noise, once around noon and again around 4 p.m. Both times stopping the equipment revealed nothing. The writer wondered if being alone in the mountains contributed to being spooked.

The witness and a companion were waiting on a riverbank at night to help pull rescue canoes from the water. After hearing brush-breaking and grunting sounds for some time, the witness was rushed by a large upright figure that came within about 10 feet while making loud vocalizations. Both individuals fled and the figure did not pursue further.

The witness was camping with about 20 relatives at a family property with cabins for the 4th of July and sitting around a large fire at night. A relative noticed a large dark man-like silhouette standing at the edge of the woods about 80 yards away near a creek. The figure stood on two legs, moved its head, grunted and growled, was said by some relatives to smell foul, threw an object at two men who started toward it, screamed loudly, and ran into the woods while shots were fired. No sounds of it moving through the woods were heard and nothing was seen or heard after that night.
