The witness and platoon were holding overnight beside a road during extended field training after being told to wait until morning to cross. While the witness and a companion sat talking under a tree, a loud scream was heard from the treeline about fifty yards away. The witness described it as sounding like a woman being harmed with a wild quality, and noted soldiers reacted by starting vehicles and moving inside.
