The witness and two companions camped in the Mt Hood National Forest with a barrel of animal entrails intended as bait. Over three days they reported loud screams from a nearby ridge, nighttime wood knocks, heavy steps and snapping twigs, and found their camp table apparently bitten through. They moved the bait pile away from camp, later found most of it missing with a wet sweet dog-like odor at the site.

The guest and his wife joined other researchers for an overnight investigation of a private property where the owner reported pounding and odd signs. After finding large footprints and noticing fresh fallen trees and a strong odor during an ATV ride, the group heard bipedal steps near base camp late at night. The guest watched a large upright figure sway between trees through night vision, saw it reappear squatting, then lose it as it moved over a ridge. The witness was canoeing alone on the river in the afternoon and had to pull out to drag the canoe around a log jam.
