The witness retrieved a shotgun and moved toward a river point while the relative watched from the canoes. The witness heard heavy footsteps and brush movement heading toward the rapids but saw nothing, and found dry crossing rocks with no splashing. He concluded whatever made the sounds must have leapt rock to rock to cross.

During a daytime hike up a drainage on 10 Sept, the witness stopped at an old hunting camp and heard two clear wood knocks about 150-200 yards away. After confirming by radio that no other participants were nearby or knocking, the witness knocked back and received an immediate two-knock reply from slightly farther away. The unseen source, estimated 100 to 150 feet away, produced two identical very loud deep resonant barks spaced about 20 to 30 seconds apart. He never saw the animal and heard nothing else. He first assumed a bear but later doubted it because the steps sounded bipedal and he found no matching bear sound.

The witness and a companion were camping in a tent at Alexander Springs. After playing cards until about 3 a.m., the companion fell asleep while the witness lay awake. The witness heard surrounding animal sounds fall silent, smelled a skunk-like odor, saw a tall upright shadow on the tent wall and heard a grunt-like noise. In the morning the coolers had been ransacked, and the pair left the campground early the next night after feeling uneasy.

The witness was camping and was awake in a sleeping bag in the early morning when extremely loud, bellowing two-part vocalizations were heard. One or possibly two warbling or yodeling replies followed from the same direction. A few minutes later two bursts of rifle fire were heard from that direction, and a subsequent search with spotlights up to 2 km north and south found nothing.

The crew was camped on the bank of Blackwater Creek eating dinner when a splash revealed their cooler in the creek was missing. Shortly after, a companion returned shaken saying something had watched him from across the creek. The witness shone a spotlight across the narrow creek and the group saw a large hair-covered biped stand up, its eyes shining, block the light with its forearm, vocalize, and flee. The men then left for a motel for the remainder of the job.

Two companions hunting grouse in a remote swampy forest heard repeated loud howls and sensed a large animal moving nearby. They left their birds behind and headed toward the exit trail while the animal paralleled them through dense brush, stopping when they stopped. In a backlit clearing they observed the full outline of a tall, dark, hair-covered biped that crossed difficult terrain with remarkable speed. The animal ceased following as they reached a more traveled ridge trail.

As a child staying at a relative's house near lakes and woods, the witness heard growling, snorting and footsteps outside a bedroom window late at night and stayed in bed frightened. The witness and at least one other person parked on a dirt road near a stream at night. They heard sloshing in the water and later saw a large figure run across the road ahead of the headlights and heard heavy steps in sagebrush. Using a spotlight they glimpsed a tall dark primate-like figure cross in front of a large boulder and enter dense timber.
Possible late night campsite intrusion in the Ocala National Forest
As a teenager camping with relatives in Ocala National Forest, the witness slept apart in a sleeping bag on the ground. After falling asleep, the witness awoke to bipedal footsteps entering the camp and heavy breathing with deep sniffs very close to the head. The witness lay still in terror, sensing the intruder watching, until it left silently and normal night sounds resumed. Nothing was seen or smelled, and no tracks were checked.

The witness, then a teenager, was riding with his brother and a friend in an old pickup checking irrigation on his father's walnut ranch when they spotted a tall hairy biped moving through the orchard. They chased it by farm roads as it ran uphill diagonally across a 40-acre block, stopped to watch it pass close by, then followed it across more blocks until it crossed a road and disappeared into dense brush on a neighboring property. Afterwards they inspected its long strides in wet ground and decided not to tell his father for fear of losing their irrigation job.

After it left he heard a loud high-pitched scream in the distance, felt watched while leaving, and vomited once clear of the woods.
