The witness was camping overnight with a scout group on a very cold, windy night when extremely loud wood-on-wood knocks were heard from north of camp. The sounds came as three pairs of knocks and were heard clearly over the wind, with no other campers in that direction. The witness did not investigate that night because of the weather and concern about frightening the children.

Across the creek he heard movement, then turned on a flashlight and saw a large hairy creature that fled into brush, shaking trees. After retreating about 30 yards it emitted a loud growling snarl, and the witness ran back to camp in panic.

The witness was at a wooded church camp at night when a tall black-haired biped trotted across about 50 feet away for about seven seconds. The witness noted a dome-like head, very large shoulders, and long arms hanging straight down while the shoulders twisted with movement. About a minute later a strong foul odor was noticed, followed minutes later by a series of loud hoots. The next morning the witness found large human-like barefoot tracks in sand.

When the witness approached palmettos to check a noise, he saw eyes, heard a growl, and watched the creature stand to about nine feet tall. The group fled and returned hours later to find food and fish missing, poles scattered, and their shirts draped high in a live oak.

The experience reportedly disturbed the grandfather enough that he moved his family to Ohio.
