Nighttime encounter by a worker at a logging site
In summer 1968 the witness was working alone at night installing radio equipment on a yarder at a remote logging landing in Oregon. After dark he felt watched and twice saw bright eyes, the second time discerning a large wide black shape about 20 feet away, accompanied by a repulsive odor. He left the site for the night and returned at daylight, finding no footprints. The next morning a crew member showed him heavy barrels that had been moved, which the witness associated with the animal.

The witness pulled back branches and saw a tall, hair-covered biped running away downhill on two legs. The companion did not see the creature. The witness lost sight of it in pines and underbrush near a swampy area.

The guest's parents were invited by their neighbor to view a hairy human-like body kept frozen in a block of ice in a lumberyard building. They described bristly hair, a caveman-like face with heavy bone, longer arms, and very large feet, with a trickle of bright red blood at the mouth. The next morning the witness saw extensive human-like footprints, a large uprooted tree, and vegetation pulled from the lake. Campers were walked around the perimeter to view the traces and were sent home early.

The witness did not scream, checked that other children were asleep, looked back to find it gone, felt heavy vibrations as it left, and zipped into the sleeping bag until morning.

The witness, then a teenager, was riding in a car with friends at night near Allaire State Park when they heard a high-pitched screech. While making a K-turn, the headlights illuminated a very tall reddish-brown manlike figure very close to the front of the car. The figure appeared surprised by the lights, the driver froze, a companion honked the horn with no immediate reaction, and a musty smell was noticed.
