Gold dredgers have afternoon encounter in Cherokee National Forest
Two men had finished dredging for gold and were talking when they noticed a large dark creature about 100 feet away partly behind a dead tree and tailings pile. The creature reached up and snapped off a tree limb, looked at them for 10 to 20 seconds while a strong smell was present, then turned and walked into the woods. They stayed in the area for two more weeks with no further sightings but reported smelling it several times.

After a mutual stare the figure made a low rumble, a second figure was glimpsed behind it, and both left quickly with ground vibrations felt. The witness remained overnight without further incident and left the next morning.

Over about an hour the witness heard rocks rolling, brush breaking and movement that seemed to follow and stop with them. While returning toward the road the witness turned to see an upright, brown, long-haired animal about 60-70 yards away that immediately leapt into dense timber. The witness was uncertain whether the sounds and sighting involved the same animal and noted a bear as a possible alternative, only later considering Bigfoot after finding a website.

A group of girls on a summer-camp hike entered a swamp-like area where they heard twigs snap, smelled a foul odor, and saw a dark hairy bipedal creature moving among trees. The creature paused and looked toward them after one girl screamed, and the group fled. A counselor later told them it was a bear, which the witness doubted because it walked on two legs and was in a swamp.

A couple were trolling slowly by boat up a flooded channel while fishing. The husband saw a dark bulky figure hunched behind brush watching them, while the wife experienced birds going quiet and then saw bushes moving up into the woods as something left quickly. Four men were driving south late at night towing a loaded travel trailer when a tall dark form ran toward the road on two feet. The car passed in front of it, but the trailer struck it with enough force to lift the trailer off the ground. The witness and a companion were gathering cattle on horseback near a river at dusk when their horses and the cattle became agitated and the horses bolted toward the riverbank. On the sandy bank they saw a tall figure squatting, which stood up and watched them for about 30 seconds before running into the trees, breaking a small tree as it fled. The witnesses returned the next morning but found little sign due to overnight rain.

The witness was fishing downstream from family members when he briefly saw the lower legs of a dark figure stepping from the creek onto the bank and into dense brush.
