As the witness took the lead near a thicket he heard a close juvenile-like two-syllable vocalization but saw nothing with his light.

Months later the witness returned to the same mountain with his wife during the day. They smelled a strong dead-like odor near the vehicle that later vanished, found a single barefoot-like print and then a short trackway of similar-sized prints going downhill, plus game and predator tracks. Near some rocks they felt a sudden temperature drop and mist with an uneasy feeling and noticed the woods were silent before hiking out.

On two consecutive nights the witness heard loud deep whooping calls, first from the valley below and then much closer to camp, with wood-on-wood-like banging the first night and coyotes falling silent. On the second night the witness left the tent with a rifle and light and heard something large and heavy crashing through timber with loud footsteps, then stood guard until morning and left early without telling the children.

The guest took his two young sons camping in a steep Colorado canyon to practice survival skills. During the night they heard a loud scream from across the canyon that approached their camp within a minute. For hours something circled them just beyond firelight, snapping large branches, making heavy thuds, and later mumbling, whistling and throwing sticks. The guest kept a large fire and shotgun through the night until morning.

He then watched through binoculars as a large hair-covered figure struck a log against a dead tree. After a wounded bull ran past the witness, a very loud angry howl or growl came from the wooded hill below. The witness had walked from camp toward a rock promontory near the Yampa River canyon. A man-like figure covered in dark reddish-brown hair approached along the cliff edge from about 100 feet away. When it noticed the witness it retreated into juniper and pinyon, making scrambling noises as it left.

The witness and a relative were hunting elk when they followed a strong smell and clashing rock sounds to a ridge. They observed a large hair-covered animal squatting in a dry creek bed striking two rocks together while vocalizing, which then stood, leapt the creek, and ran upslope out of sight. They later collected two chipped rocks from the spot but found no tracks or hair.

They heard sloshing in the water and later saw a large figure run across the road ahead of the headlights and heard heavy steps in sagebrush. Using a spotlight they glimpsed a tall dark primate-like figure cross in front of a large boulder and enter dense timber.

The witness was camping with family and climbed a hill with cousins, rolling rocks from the top. They heard crashing in aspens across a ravine and saw a tall, long-haired figure standing on two legs about 300 feet away watching them for several minutes. After watching it rock back and forth, the group ran back down the hill. The witness maintains decades later that it was not a bear.

After the witness shot a deer, the follower vocalized loudly and thrashed brush and trees while pursuing them downhill. The pair abandoned the deer and left the timber, with the follower continuing to vocalize behind them to the timber edge.

The guest and two companions camped by a river while fishing and kept a stump burning in a fire ring overnight. Something heavy entered the camp and moved around the tent without approaching the fire. The group shouted, and the visitor eased back into the woods rather than running.

While staged for night gunnery on a military range, crews ahead reported a large person downrange moving across the firing lanes as seen through thermal sights. Range control halted firing for hours to search for anyone downrange. The guest did not see the figure directly and only listened over the radio.
