The witness was sitting outside at night talking on the phone when she heard movement in nearby woods and then noticed a strange odor. She looked up and saw a very large, hair-covered figure standing in a field about 30 feet away. Frightened, she ran inside and locked the doors, and a family member found nothing that night with a flashlight. The next morning she and a relative found flattened grass, clearings, and tracks leading into the woods but were too frightened to follow them.

The witness visited a pine forest site three times in the early morning. On the first visit he heard heavy footsteps retreating, smelled a skunk-like odor, and saw a rock thrown into water. A nearby tree then fell, and as they ran toward safety they heard heavy steps and grunting keeping pace parallel to them. About an hour later they returned and found a tall tree freshly snapped about eight feet up with dripping sap and a hair on a branch.

After the dog returned frightened and stayed close, the pair tried to walk out in darkness with failing lights. The witness joined a small group for an overnight camp to practice outdoor skills. In the evening the witness walked east of camp, noticed a strong foul smell and heard vegetation breaking nearby before running back to the group. Overnight the campers were awakened by sounds around the camp followed by a loud crash, and by morning the food hung high above ground was gone, the supporting limb was damaged, and a foul smell lingered. The group then packed and left the area.
