The witness, a teenager on a deer-hunting trip on private wooded land in North Carolina, was waiting in a tree stand in the morning when he noticed a strong bad odor and then heard twigs snapping. He watched the upper half of a large dark-furred creature about 50 yards away standing in one spot eating leaves for several minutes before it walked away while still audible. When companions arrived he recounted the sighting and they suggested it was a bear, which he rejected because he had seen a bear earlier that day.

After hearing a crushing and rustling noise, the witness saw a tall black bipedal being about twenty yards away that looked at the witness and raised its arms. Livestock on surrounding farms were found dead with intestines removed. After the father fired through a wall at one creature, only the smaller one was reportedly seen, and activity lessened after relatives guarded the house and a protective ritual was performed.

While living on a military base and walking a trail past eroded hillsides to the beach, the witness repeatedly smelled a strong odor and had small rocks tossed at the back of the carried board. The witness once saw the hairy backside of a large figure running into the hollows, and a friend who teased its speech and threw a rock was chased. Soon after, military police closed the area and the hillside was leveled.
