Two companions walking on a Lake Superior beach at dusk with a dog approached a large driftwood pile when the dog reacted and stopped. They saw a large dark upright silhouette on the far side of the pile that bent down, gripped a log as if to climb over, then ducked out of view when a flashlight was aimed at it. The head was seen popping up briefly before they retreated to the parking lot.

The witness was staying five nights in a lakeside cabin in February with heavy snow. On three consecutive nights around 10 p.m., after stepping outside for a cigarette, the witness heard a very loud knock in the woods, often followed shortly by more distant knocks. The witness and two companions were scouting for deer season by a creek near a cedar swamp when they heard an unfamiliar low growl. After the witness threw stones toward the sound, they saw a dark upright shadow moving at the swamp edge and rocks were thrown back toward them. Hearing further growls and large branches breaking, the group left quickly for their vehicle.

As they walked they heard loud cracks, pops and snaps from the treeline that seemed to parallel their movement, smelled rotten garbage, and the dog became fearful. Near the site of a previously found stick shelter they heard a tree snap and crash nearby, then turned back while snapping sounds seemed to follow them to the clearing.

While leaving through the woods toward the car they heard loud screeching and something large jumping nearby without being seen. They left quickly in the car, with the witness feeling the source was too big to be people.

The group left the woods together without explanation for the sound.

The witness was deer hunting alone in a swamp in late November when he heard an unfamiliar loud scream to the north followed by a loud branch breaking. He became uneasy and walked out to his car while watching behind him. Near his car he noticed a broad, roughly 8-foot-tall bipedal form standing about 35 yards away behind dense cover, which he believed had followed him. He left with a handgun ready and avoided hunting the swamp for several years.
