He stayed still without turning on a light and heard no footsteps or breathing as the movement stopped. The witness opened the camper door expecting a bear and saw a large dark upright shape about forty feet away moving swiftly into the timber. The camper shook strongly as the animal left while nearby dogs barked. In the morning no tracks were found and they could not recreate the shaking.

The witness and a companion were alone at the witness's parents' house at night when they saw a head looking in through the front door. They retreated to a bedroom without curtains where they heard breathing and scratching and saw a hairy hand against the window screen. The companion fired two shots that missed, and the figure ran away. A sheriff who responded found bullet holes but no blood or footprints.

The witness and the witness's father drove to a mountain quarry to sleep in their vehicle for a morning deer hunt. In the middle of the night something slammed the side of the heavy truck and rocked it violently. The father rushed to the driver's seat and drove fast for about 100 miles to the next town, later saying only that a face had looked through the truck window.

The witness lived for two to three months in a rock overhang above a canyon stream, fishing with traps and hunting small game. A large hairy creature repeatedly raided his fish traps, exchanged rock throws, accepted camp bread, used a larger trap left for it and took deer remains. After an ice storm the witness developed severe pneumonia with high fever and could not tend his fire. He reported the creature looking in on him, leaving meat, a headless rabbit and herbs he boiled, then carrying him down the canyon over hours or days until a couple in a converted school bus found him and got him to a hospital.

The sounds stopped shortly after, and the next morning the adults found apples and potatoes missing from the back of the truck.
